Surgery Day

My baby boy was so brave today. He got tubes in his ears. I was instructed to not give him anything to eat or drink after midnight last night. I was terrified for the tantrum this morning. But... He didn't make a peep he was not mad that I didn't give him his morning bottle and he didn't act that hungry either I was so proud of him.
So they took us back into a small room and I had to put the tiny little gown on him. It was so cute. The poor little guy had no idea what was going on. And of course like all doctor and hospital visits we waited and waited. When up came an older gentleman he introduced himself and said hand him over. That was so hard. I was not allowed to go back with him to put him to sleep. So I handed over my precious child to the strange man, and again walked into the waiting room. 20 min later I could hear him screaming down the hall. There is nothing worse than hearing your child scream and not being able to do anything about it. The nurse explained to me that all babies wake up crying, they're in an unfamiliar place and they are a little traumatized. I had never heard him cry the way he was crying, it broke my heart into a million pieces.

After a big bottle, some pain medication and and hour and half of crying, I rocked him to sleep. He is going to have a rough day. But all went well and we are both going to try and get some rest.

Oh poor guy. I would have a really hard time giving my baby up to a stranger too. I would have cried. I hope he feels better soon.
